ABSTRACT

The following curriculum reforms in medical functional experiment have been performed in Guangzhou Medical University: taking comprehensive experiments as main contents, supported by self-designed experiments and innovative experiments after class, applying the blended teaching mode by combining virtual simulation experiments and animal experiments, setting up "simulative functional experiment" as an optional course based on intelligent simulated human system, and developing medical popular science education for teenagers. Questionnaire results show that, through these reforms, remarkable effects have been achieved in students' integrated practical ability, scientific accomplishment, clinical and innovative thinking ability.

ABSTRACT

To effectively urge students to preview lessons before class, carry out efficient precise interactive teaching in class and make an accurate analysis on the teaching effect after class, Rain Classroom was utilized to construct a high-efficient interactive precision before-class-in-class-after-class teaching mode for physiology teaching. A questionnaire survey was conducted for the students, and the results show that the students are very fond of the teaching mode supported by Rain Classroom. The mode effectively promotes the students' daily study and the interaction between teachers and students, makes teachers accurately grasp the students' situation and perform scientific and precise teaching, enhances the teaching efficiency and improves the teaching effect.

ABSTRACT

Objective To find an ideal animal model of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) through investigating the characteristics of three two-hit animal models of ARDS.Methods Forty-eight SD rats were randomly divided into 4 groups: Control group [2.5 mL/kg normal saline (NS) i.v.given at 0 min and 30 min];OA+OA group [0.5 mL/kg oleic acid (OA) i.v.given at 0 min and 30 min];LPS+LPS group [2.5 mg/kg lipopolysaccharide (LPS) i.v.given at 0 min and 30 min];and OA+LPS group [0.5 mL/kg OA i.v.given at 0 min and 2.5 mg/kg LPS,i.v.given at 30 min].The samples were collected at 5 h after the second drug injection.White blood cells count (WBC),polymorphonuclear leukocyte ratio (PMN%),total protein concentration, tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) level in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF),arterial blood gas analysis and lung wet-dry weight ratio (W/D) were measured, respectively.Pathological changes in the lung tissues were observed and histological scores were evaluated. Results Compared with those in the control group,PaCO2,WBC,PMN%,total protein concentration and TNF-α levels in BALF were significantly increased, while PaO2 was dramatically decreased (P<0.01) in the OA+OA,LPS+LPS and OA+LPS groups. The levels of protein concentration in BALF and lung W/D ratio in the OA+LPS group were significantly higher than these in the LPS+LPS group (P<0.05 for all),but had no statistically significant difference compared with these in the OA+OA group. The levels of WBC,PMN% and TNF-α in BALF in the OA+LPS group were significantly higher than those in the OA+OA group (P<0.05),but not significantly different from those in the LPS+LPS group. The most typical pathological changes and the highest pathological scores were found in the OA+LPS group. Conclusions All the three different methods including OA+OA,LPS+LPS,and OA+LPS can be used to establish “two-hit” animal models of acute respiratory distress syndrome. The “two-hit” animal model of acute respiratory distress syndrome induced by OA+LPS is more closer to clinical ARDS and is useful for studies on the pathophysiology of ARDS,and is an ideal “two-hit” animal model of ARDS.

ABSTRACT

Objective:This paper aims to bioinformatically analyze the target genes of miR-29b and to provide clues for cancer research targeting miR-29b. Methods:The differential expression levels of miRNAs in CD133+and CD133-A549 cells were detected using the miRNA PCR chip. Real-time polymerase chain reaction was performed to verify the partially differential expression of miR-NAs. Target genes of miR-29b were predicted by miRecords and analyzed by gene ontology and signal transduction pathway enrich-ment analysis. Results: The miR-29b expression was significantly decreased in the CD133+A549 cells compared with that in the CD133-cells. The number of miR-29b target genes was 106. The functions of these target genes were enriched in binding and extracel-lular matrix structural constituent (P<0.01). The JAK-STAT and TGF-βsignal transduction pathways were significantly enriched (P<0.05). Conclusion:The abnormal expression of miR-29b may be related to metastasis. Some of the predicted target genes of miR-29b were significantly enriched in the signaling pathways in relation to the tumors.

ABSTRACT

Teaching healthy lifestyle in combination with physiology is hardly practiced in schools of medicine. Individual lifestyle factor accounts for 60% among the factors that lead to dis-eases. Physiology contains the basic theories for health knowledge. Therefore, during physiology teach-ing , healthy lifestyle was introduced by combining such contents of physiology as digestion and absorption , energy metabolism balance and emotional physiological reaction with four “health corner-stones” such as health diet, regular physical activity, psychological balance, quitting smoking and drinking less alcohol. This teaching mode has widened the teaching ideas, which has not only in-creased the students' interest and significance in physiology learning, but also promoted them to de-velop good healthy lifestyle.
